Near Ruinerwold fire has raged in a piece of grassland. The fire started at the beginning of the afternoon along De Weidenweg.
Fire brigades from the area quickly had the situation under control, and were ready to extinguish the fire within fifteen minutes. Several cars were called out because of the drought, which means that the fire can spread more quickly.
The fire started through the exhaust of a lawnmower, according to an eyewitness. The drought makes this happen more easily, warns the Drenthe Safety Region. “It has rained a bit, but in most cases that has also evaporated. Nature is still very dry, and it looks like it will stay that way.”
