On the eve of the Russia-NATO Council, whose meeting is scheduled for January 12 in Brussels, a meeting of the foreign ministers of all countries of the North Atlantic Alliance will take place. About this on Twitter reported the representative of the military bloc Oana Lungescu.

“On January 7, an extraordinary virtual meeting of the foreign ministers of the NATO countries will take place. They will discuss the concentration of Russian troops near Ukraine, as well as a wide range of European security issues, ”Lungescu said.

Earlier, Secretary General of the alliance Jens Stoltenberg confirmed that the meeting of the Russia-NATO Council will be held on January 12 in Brussels. It is expected that the Deputy Foreign Minister and the Deputy Defense Minister will take part in it on behalf of Russia.

Moscow proposed to NATO a draft agreement on security guarantees. This includes guarantees that the republics of the former USSR will not join the North Atlantic Alliance. Brussels replied that they did not intend to compromise on Ukraine’s entry into NATO.

Talks are scheduled for January 10 in Geneva between representatives of Russia and the United States. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov indicated that it would be about security guarantees. In turn, White House spokesman Jen Psaki said that the American side may agree with some Russian proposals, but not those related to NATO.
