The NATO starts its nuclear exercises this Monday in maneuvers in Belgium that will have the participation of 14 allies and up to 60 aircraft, including fifth-generation fighters.

The Allied Secretary General himself, Jens Stoltenbergconfirmed this Thursday that NATO will continue with some exercises that will last until October 30 and indicated that it is about a “routine” training that does not obey the actuality in Ukraine. At all times, Stoltenberg has defended that changing the alliance’s plans because of the Russian nuclear threat would be sending the wrong message to the Kremlin.

“They serve to ensure that NATO’s nuclear capabilities remain secure, protected and effective”, he assured about some annual practices that were scheduled before the war in Ukraine.

Thus the things, air forces of 14 countries will carry out nuclear deterrence maneuvers with dozens of planes starting Monday. Belgium hosts the exercises this year and the flights will take place over the North Sea and the United Kingdom, the military organization reported in a statement detailing that it will not use live fire.

In the midst of Moscow’s rhetorical escalation on the use of nuclear weapons, NATO has argued that its exercises will take place more than 1,000 kilometers from the border with Russia and that the goal is to ensure that NATO’s nuclear deterrent remains “safe and effective.”
