Nations League: riots in English pub – DFB President speaks of “chaotic”

Before the German national team’s international match against England, there were riots in a pub near London’s Wembley Stadium.

Early Monday evening (September 26th, 2022), around 100 men – many of them masked – came into the pub’s beer garden and attacked guests, she said Metropolitan Police on Tuesday upon request. Although some England scarves and hats were seen, authorities believe they were German fans.

“Not a good light fell on us”

“Unfortunately, this day didn’t go by without chaotic people making sure that we weren’t portrayed in a good light.”said DFB President Bernd Neuendorf on Tuesday at the national conference of the Fan Projects Coordination Office (KOS) in Düsseldorf: “I don’t know the current status, but there have been injuries and arrests. And we are concerned that it will continue when the U21s play in Sheffield.”

Four arrests

According to reports, there was a fight in the crowd. Several guests sustained head and face injuries, three suffered serious injuries to their legs or hands, but none were life-threatening. When the police intervened, most of the attackers fled. Four people involved were arrested.

Several media reported five people who had to be hospitalized. Guests, some with their families in the Pub came to watch the international match expressed shock at the violent scenes on Twitter.
