Nations League: Portugal wins again

Lisbon/Geneva (AP) – Cristiano Ronaldo remains undefeated with Portugal in the Nations League.

The football superstar did not score himself in the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon, but former European champions Portugal still won 2-0 (2-0) against the Czech Republic. João Cancelo opened the scoring in the 33rd minute and five minutes later Gonçalo Guedes doubled the advantage against the previous runners-up.

With seven points, Portugal, under veteran coach Fernando Santos (67), is at the top of the table in Group 2 of the Nations League A. Spain has two points fewer as the new second.

Coach Luis Enrique’s side clinched their first win after starting the Nations League with two draws, one against Portugal. Last year’s European Championship semifinalists beat Switzerland 1-0 (1-0) in Geneva. Pablo Sarabia scored the only goal of the game in the 13th minute. Hosts Switzerland, coached by Murat Yakin, suffered their third defeat in three games. They had previously lost 4-0 to Portugal, with Ronaldo scoring twice.
