DFB President Bernd Neuendorf reacted evasively to media reports that Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, who is currently reported ill, could not return as national coach.
“I ask for your understanding. We know that Martina Voss-Tecklenburg is currently ill, so respect and care dictate that we not speculate about it,” said the 62-year-old before the men’s international match against France in the ” ARD”.
“We made a clear agreement, we had a lot of discussions with the team, with the environment, with the coaching staff,” added Neuendorf, referring to the analysis that was announced after the disappointing preliminary round exit at the Women’s World Cup: ” We wanted to combine the results, that will take place after her recovery. Then we will come to a final conclusion.”
The German Football Association made it public last Friday that Voss-Tecklenburg would not be taking part in the first international matches after the historic World Cup debacle in Australia due to illness, but the association was not more specific.
Despite a contract until 2025 and the national coach’s announced stay with the association, the absence due to illness has fueled speculation about Voss-Tecklenburg’s professional future.
