National athlete Merve Tuncel won one gold and one bronze medal at the European Junior Swimming Championships held in Romania.


In the organization held in the capital Bucharest, national swimmer Merve Tuncel won the gold medal in the women’s 1500 meters freestyle with a time of 16.13.68.


Merve came third in Europe with a time of 2.00.02 in the 200 meters freestyle.


Merve Tuncel, who won the gold medal in the 800 meters freestyle at the 19th Mediterranean Games, became the first Turkish female swimmer to reach the championship in the history of the games.

Competing in the European Junior Championships, Belis Şakar won the silver medal.


The national swimmer finished second in the women’s 400 meters individual medley with a time of 4.47.11.
