While Bayern President Herbert Hainer explained at the weekend that it was up to Süle to accept the offer, according to “Bild” he had informed the club weeks ago that the 26-year-old would not be extending his contract. The contract expires in summer 2022. Oliver Kahn has now confirmed in a press round at FC Bayern that the national player will leave the club in the summer.
Four championships and Champions League triumph
Süle came to Munich from Hoffenheim in 2017 for 20 million euros. The massive centre-back scored in his first game for Munich but then went back to preventing goals. He quickly became a regular on the defensive and, with changing partners such as Mats Hummels and Lucas Hernandez, formed the heart of Munich’s central defense for a long time.
In his four seasons with Bayern, Süle has won four championships and the DFB Cup twice. Although he was slowed down by a cruciate ligament tear in 2019, Süle was also on the pitch for the 2020 Champions League triumph when he came on for the injured Jerome Boateng after 25 minutes.
Süle changes free of charge
In the event of a change, FC Bayern will not receive a fee for Süle. Grateful buyers could be FC Barcelona, Newcastle United or FC Chelsea. Should the Blues snap up Süle, a “swap” could be in the offing: Bayern are said to be interested in Chelsea defenders Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen. Their contracts are also running out, so they would not cost a transfer fee.
