The move from Union’s Kevin Behrens to VfL Wolfsburg is fixed. The striker is leaving Union Berlin – and will now fulfill a special task for Lower Saxony.
VfL Wolfsburg has signed national striker Kevin Behrens from league rivals Union Berlin. The Lower Saxony announced this on Wednesday after numerous media had previously reported on the struggling Wolves’ interest in the 32-year-old attacker. The club did not specify a contract term; according to media reports, Behren’s contract will run until summer 2026. The transfer fee should be 3.5 million euros.
“Kevin comes from current game operations, he knows the league and will therefore only need a short period of getting used to it,” VfL sports director Sebastian Schindzielorz is quoted in the statement: “He has proven his qualities on the pitch again and again in recent years placed.”
Behrens moved from the then second division club SV Sandhausen to Union in 2021, where he matured into a national player. Behrens made his debut under national coach Julian Nagelsmann in the 2-2 draw against Mexico in October. The attacker’s contract in Berlin ran until the summer of 2024. Behrens scored four goals for Union in the current season.
Behrens is supposed to revive the offensive in Wolfsburg. Coach Niko Kovac’s team only scored 23 goals in 19 games this season. After a good start to the season, the 2009 champions are currently only in eleventh place in the table.
