Matthias Ginter is an undisputed regular at Borussia Mönchengladbach. But from the coming summer he will no longer be part of the “foals”. The 27-year-old reported this personally.
Matthias Ginter will leave Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer. The central defender announced this on Tuesday evening. Ginter’s contract with the “foals” expires at the end of the season – and will not be extended.
Ginter wrote on Instagram: “After 5 great years at Borussia Mönchengladbach, it is very difficult for me to take this step, but I have decided to take a different path in my career for my personal and professional development. I have a lot for Borussia thanks and I will always have the club and the great fans in my heart. “
A core force on the Lower Rhine
The national player has been playing in Gladbach since 2017, when he came from Dortmund for around 17 million euros. Since then, the native of Freiburg has made 165 competitive games for the “foals”. Whether under Dieter Hecking, Marco Rose or now Adi Hütter, Ginter was always part of the team. He impressed with consistently good performances, and he also developed into a leader who was also becoming increasingly popular with the fans.
It is still unclear where Ginter is going. In addition to German clubs, other clubs are also considered candidates. In recent years, the central defender has also been associated with other countries. In view of his World Cup chances, Ginter will have to think carefully about who to sign with. Because so far he has not been a regular under new national coach Hansi Flick and thus also a shaky candidate for the Qatar squad.
