Last year, the National Office for Annual Holidays paid 3.41 billion euros gross holiday pay to more than 1.1 million employees. It is remarkable that the holiday pay allocated for the so-called assimilated days has more than doubled in one year, primarily as a result of temporary unemployment during the corona crisis. This is apparent from the RJV’s 2021 annual report on Thursday.
The holiday pay that was paid from the RJV Kas is 52 million euros – or 1.5 percent – lower than in 2020, the annual report also shows.
In addition to the RJV-Kas, there are also nine sectoral holiday funds, including those in the construction, metal and food sector. If their amounts are also included, the total holiday pay paid out in 2021 will rise to a gross amount of 5.40 billion euros, for all together 1.59 million employees.
About 85 percent of the holiday pay allocated stems from days actually worked. The remaining 15 percent comes from the days that are equated to it. This concerns, for example, illness, maternity leave or economic unemployment.
It is striking that the holiday pay for those equalizations has more than doubled in 2021: from 347.78 million euros to 809.37 million. This is largely a result of the temporary unemployment due to force majeure, which was applied during the corona crisis. For the calculation of the holiday pay, those days of unemployment could be equated with actual working days.
