National lockdown requirement is back in force after new cases of bird flu

There will again be a national obligation to keep chickens and other birds in cages, the Ministry of Agriculture reports. This was recently lifted, but two new outbreaks of bird flu have now been discovered. The latter, in the municipality of Edam-Volendam, is reason to introduce a national shelter-in-place obligation again.

The cage requirement applies to all commercially kept birds, including poultry. There is also a shielding obligation for hobby birds that pose a risk. For example, they must be kept in aviaries so that they do not come into contact with potentially sick wild birds.
