National Heat Plan no longer in force from Wednesday

The National Heat Plan will no longer be in force from 09.00 on Wednesday morning, the RIVM reports. The plan went into effect a week ago, due to the emerging heat wave. It is now cooler.

With the National Heat Plan, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) warns organizations and professionals in care and informal carers about the persistent heat. For example, older people are vulnerable when it is hot, partly because they feel less thirsty and can therefore dehydrate more easily when it is hot.

Activation of the plan is the signal for caregivers and also nurseries to activate their heat scenarios. “Although the persistent heat has passed, it will remain warm in the coming days,” the RIVM said. That is why the Institute for Public Health, together with the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), remains alert to new hot periods.

This year was the second time that the National Heat Plan was activated. It was also hit in July. Incidentally, it is more common for the heat plan to come into effect several times a year. In 2019, the plan was even proclaimed three times.
