National coach Alfred Gislason has brought goalkeeper Silvio Heinevetter from TVB Stuttgart back to the national team after two years.
In total, Gislason nominated 19 players for the tests on November 3rd and 5th. The second game takes place on “Handball Day” in Munich. “The days in Munich and the international matches against Egypt will be extremely important, because from now on it’s all about laying the foundation for the European Championship. Everyone has to get to know their role and fulfill it one hundred percent,” Gislason is quoted in the DHB announcement.
Heinevetter will return alongside U21 world champion David Späth, who could make his senior national team debut, and regular goalkeeper Andreas Wolff “More security and experience in the goalkeeperteam bring”.
Rejection by Pekeler
Wolff is currently in rehab after an injury and will “In all likelihood it will not be fully ready yet,” Gislason said. “I would therefore like to add further security and experience to the goalkeeper with Silvio Heinevetter, who is showing strong form in the leagueteam bring. That will be important against the African champions and sixth-placed Egypt.” By 2021, Heinevetter had played 204 international matches.
Gislason has to do without the injured Paul Drux and Fabian Wiede as well as Luca Witzke. A final rejection of the European Championship came from Hendrik Pekeler. “I have been in contact with those responsible at the DHB for months and had the European Championship on my mind, but with a heavy heart I have to cancel”said the backcourt player from German champions THW Kiel.
According to his own statement, Pekeler is not yet back in the necessary form, “about that team to really be able to help. Now I am just fan our national team and hope for an inspiring January”said the 2016 European champion.
