National coaching in Suriname is over for Aron Winter

Aron Winter is no longer the coach of the Suriname national team. The Surinamese Football Association has decided not to extend the expiring contract of the 56-year-old former footballer.

According to the Surinamese Football Association, the former Ajax player has not achieved his goals. Under his leadership, Suriname failed to qualify for the Copa América. Winter has been national coach of Suriname since September 2022. He succeeded Stanley Menzo at the time.

Winter was previously assistant to Greece national coach John van ‘t Schip. He also worked as an assistant coach at Ajax. The Surinamese Football Association is still looking for a successor. He will have the opportunity to lead the national team to the 2026 World Cup.

Last Saturday, Winter put on the football boots himself. The 84-time international played the traditional New Year’s match with the ex-internationals against the Legends of Royal HFC. The score was 5-3 at the Spanjaardslaan in Haarlem for the old glory of the Dutch team.
