The only AZ player in the final selection of the Dutch national team has dropped out. Bruno Martins Indi is still undergoing an MRI scan, but this afternoon national coach Louis van Gaal said that he does not count on the captain of the Alkmaarders to report in Zeist this international period. Van Gaal is not calling for a replacement.
Martins Indi dropped out in the extra time of the first half of AZ – Ajax yesterday with an upper leg injury. “It looks bleak,” said Van Gaal, who indicated that he would not call a replacement. The second AZ player who was in the pre-selection, Jordy Clasie, dropped out when the final selection was announced.
Acquainted
On Thursday, the Orange squad will play against Poland in Warsaw and Belgium will come to Amsterdam on Sunday. It is the last opportunity for Louis van Gaal to test players before the World Cup starts in Qatar. “I want to get to know a few more players this week. I prefer not to go to Qatar in November with players I don’t know yet.”
“If someone is injured, everything can always change”
Still, Van Gaal left a small glimmer of hope for Volendammer Joey Veerman and Ajax striker Brian Brobbey who were in the pre-selection, but did not survive the selection to the final group for this week. “If someone is injured, everything can always change, so I don’t rule out anything,” said Van Gaal.
38-year-old debutant
Ajax keeper Remko Pasveer makes his debut in the selection at the age of 38. Pasveer is having a strong season. This is how he made a big impression against Liverpool and AZ. Van Gaal has also cleared a spot for Kenneth Taylor. The Ajax midfielder played in all official matches for Ajax and scored three goals in the Eredivisie.
