The question of who will be the new national coach is a concern for footballfans in Germany. Julian Nagelsmann is being hotly traded – but according to Vice President Watzke, the DFB has not yet asked him directly.
In the debate about the search for a new national soccer coach, Bernd Neuendorf avoided making specific statements about the possible candidate Julian Nagelsmann (36).
“We have clear ideas and are approaching it very systematically”said the DFB President at the Bundesliga’s 60th anniversary celebrations in Berlin’s Tempodrom.
Neuendorf described the profile of the preferred candidate as follows: “It has to be someone who is assertive, who is also robust and resilient.” And it works straight away, because there isn’t much time left until the European Championship next year, which starts on June 14th, Neuendorf made clear. When asked whether there had already been discussions with Nagelsmann, DFB Vice President Hans-Joachim Watzke replied: “No.”
The successor should be presented before the trip to the USA
A successor to Hansi Flick (58), who was released after the Japan game (1:4), is to be presented before the trip to the USA with international matches on October 14th against the USA and four days later against Mexico. The interim coach Rudi Völler (63), who was successful in the 2-1 win against France, had already announced before the game that he would not play any further international matches Coach wanting to lead. Völler’s decision must be accepted, said Watzke: “And we accept that too.”
The former Leverkusen player Manager Reiner Calmund hopes that Völler will continue to closely accompany the national team – together with him “highly gifted” Nagelsmann. “I think that a young solution must be sought, and then Nagelsmann in combination with Rudi Völler is not a risk for me”said the 74-year-old. Völler should “from the VIP stand to the bench” go.
