National coach Ronald Koeman has announced the final selection of the Dutch national team for the European Championship qualifying matches with France and Gibraltar. The 59-year-old Zaandammer lets three players make their debuts and ignores Jordy Clasie from AZ.
The 25-strong selection has three newcomers with Bart Verbruggen, Mats Wieffer and Lutsharel Geertruida. They have never been part of the Dutch national team. Georginio Wijnaldum also returns to the Dutch national team. He was not part of the World Cup selection under the previous national coach Louis van Gaal.
Classic
Koeman recently presented a pre-selection of 37 players. There was room for Jordy Clasie. However, the captain of AZ is not part of the final selection of the Dutch national team. That means that the Alkmaarders will not deliver internationals for the coming international period. Sven Mijnans, on the other hand, has been included in the selection of the Dutch Juniors.

With Steven Berghuis, Steven Bergwijn, Brian Brobbey, Davy Klaassen, Kenneth Taylor and Jurriën Timber, Koeman selects no less than six Ajax players. The content of former Ajax players is also high in the selection of Orange. Jasper Cillessen, Daley Blind, Sven Botman, Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt are coming along. Former AZ player Wout Weghorst is also one of the 25 selected.
Dropouts
The national coach had bad news for Jordy Clasie, Jeremie Frimpong, Ryan Gravenberch, Quilindschy Hartman, Teun Koopmeiners, Noa Lang, Andries Noppert, Kjell Scherpen, Kenny Tete, Joey Veerman and Stefan de Vrij. They are the dropouts, who were included in the preselection. Vincent Janssen, former AZ striker, recently indicated that he is putting an end to his international career.
The Dutch national team will play two matches in the World Cup qualifying series in March. On Friday, March 24, the Orange squad will face France in Paris. Gibraltar awaits in De Kuip on Monday evening.
