National coach Riise must make Norwegian football players successful again
Hege Riise is the new national coach of the Norwegian football players. She is the successor of Martin Sjögren, who left after a disappointing European Championship. The Swede was still under contract with the Norwegian association until the summer of 2023.
Norway got stuck in the group stage of the European Championship in England. The Norwegian soccer players have only won one of their three group matches, 4-1 against Northern Ireland. The 8-0 defeat against England was especially painful. After that disgrace, the criticism focused mainly on Sjögren.
Riise, 53, won Olympic gold as a soccer star with Norway. She also captured the world title and also became European champion.
