National coach Louis van Gaal has been ill for some time. The 70-year-old Amsterdammer suffers from an aggressive form of prostate cancer. He said that in the program Humberto on RTL.
The players of the Dutch national team have never been told that Van Gaal is ill. “They don’t know. They see a blush on my cheeks and think: what a healthy guy he is. That is of course not the case.”
The national coach was present with Humberto to talk about a documentary about his life. There is also room for the disease that Van Gaal suffers from. “It’s just part of life,” said the national coach.
Van Gaal has now been irradiated 25 times. This happened during training camps, where he was irradiated in the hospital in the evenings.
