National coach Fulco van Gulik temporarily stops working after Amy Pieters accident cycling

Last December, Van Gulik crashed together with Amy Pieters during a road training in Calpe, Spain. Pieters suffered serious brain damage as a result of the fall and is still in a coma in a Dutch hospital.

The KNWU does not know how long Van Gulik will be absent. The association is looking for an internal solution and has charged sprint coach Mehdi Kordi with the preparations for the first matches for the Nations Cup in Glasgow in April.

Van Gulik had been in charge of the elite track cyclists for the endurance events since the autumn of 2021.
