Nathan van Gelder is responsible for the last part of the organization of the Liberation Festival Drenthe. Herbert Jansen, who has been director-producer of the Liberation Festival since September 1, is sick at home.
Van Gelder has organized the Liberation Festival for the past nine years. He said goodbye after the last edition. “I thought: let’s just start enjoying life,” he said of the departure.
Van Gelder has been approached by the board of the Liberation Festival to ensure that the next edition can still take place, and has decided to take on this task. “I have closed the Liberation Festival Drenthe in my heart. If I get a call because they want to know something, then I am ready,” he said to RTV Drenthe before.
The retirement of Herbert Jansen is a setback for the board. Chairman Ger Boes: “Eighty percent of the festival has been arranged, now we still have to put the finishing touches on the i. We are happy that Nathan wants to tackle it. That will be all right. We will have a wonderful festival.”
The Liberation Festival Drenthe has been held since 2011 at the Baggelhuizerplas in Assen.
Due to the corona measures, there was an online edition last year, which was broadcast live by RTV Drenthe. This year there are several big bands on the program. For example, Suzan & Freek are at the festival this year as Ambassadors of Freedom. The duo has been around since 2019 and is known for the songs ‘Als Het Avond Is’ and ‘Blauwe Dag’.
