Natalie Portman: Double Standard at Cannes Film Festival | show

Actress Natalie Portman says that women should behave differently from men at the Cannes Film Festival, for example in how they look. This is what the actress says at the same festival during a press meeting for her new film May Dec.

“The whole movie is very much about the different roles we play in different settings, for different people, even for ourselves,” noted trade magazine Variety. “Even here it happens, with the different ways women are supposed to behave at this festival compared to men.”

“How we should look, how we should behave,” the Oscar winner continues. “Expectations are different every time and they affect how you behave. You are absolutely defined by the social structures around you.”

Partly because of this, she was happy with her role in May Dec, in which she can be seen alongside Julianne Moore, among others. “It’s great to be a part of a movie like this,” said Portman. “Those two complex female characters have wonderful conflicts.”
