Marco Bellocchio: seven awards for Kidnapped
Yesterday, Tuesday 20 June, at the MAXXI – National Museum of XXI Century Arts From Rome, the 78th edition of the Nastri D’Argento took place. The nominations, announced last June 1st, showed great appreciation for the last effort by Marco Bellocchio. And actually Kidnapped won one Silver Ribbon after another.
Other than that how Best MovieIndeed, Kidnapped won in the category for Best director (Marco Bellocchio) Best Screenplay (Marco Bellocchio, Susanna Nicchiarelli in collaboration with Edoardo Albinati and Daniela Ceselli), Best Leading Actress (Barbara Ronchi) Best Supporting Actor (Paul Pierobon), Better editing (Francesca Calvelli and Stefano Mariotti) and the Award production (Beppe Caschetto for IBC Movie, Simone Gattoni for Kavac Film and Paolo Del Brocco for Rai Cinema).

The story of Edgardo Mortara told in Kidnapped
The film that broke the ground in this latest edition of the Nastri D’Argento – and which was premiered on May 23, 2023 at the 76th Cannes Film Festival – takes its cue from Edgardo Mortara case. He was the sixth child of a Jewish family from Bologna. We are in the mid 1800s. Believing he was ill, the Christian maid administered baptism in great secrecy, for fear that his soul might not enter heaven.
However, the child did not die and, once the maid confessed what she had done, was picked up and taken by force to Rome: the regulations of the Papal State (including, at the time, also the city of Bologna) did not allow a Christian child to be educated and raised by non-Christians.
The affair became an international case. And public opinion was divided. To the point that the story of Edgardo Mortara came directly to the Pope, Pius IX, who he decided to intervene.

But this was not the only recent recognition for Bellocchio. In fact, for some years now i Silver Ribbons – prize created by Syndicate of Italian Film Journalists – they are also dedicated to the entire film industry of television series. Thus, on June 17th, in collaboration with the Campania Region Film Commission, the ceremony of the Silver Ribbons – Great Series. During the evening, hosted at the Court Theater of Palazzo Reale, in Naples, it was indeed rewarded Exterior Night by Marco Bellocchio as Best tv series 2023.
On that occasion, prizes were also awarded to the third season of Sea out (Series of the year), Lidia Poët’s law (Best Crime Series), Prism (Best Drama Series), Call My Agent – Italy (Best Comedy Series), Circeo (Best Documentary Series). But also Filumena Marturanus (Best TV Movie).
For Exterior Night the awards had also come to the main characters: Margherita Buy was awarded as Best Leading Actress While Fabrizio Gifuni as Best Leading Actor.
