NASDAQ title Tesla – demand problems: Tesla wants to boost its sales again at the end of the year

• USA: Tax breaks from 2023 lead to cancellations at Tesla
• Germany: Tesla compensates lower environmental bonus if delivery takes place in the new year
• Europe and US: Tesla buyers receive 10,000 free miles/km of Superchargers

USA: Tax benefits from January 1, 2023

As electrek reports, buyers of a Tesla in the USA can look forward to tax breaks of up to 7,500 US dollars from January 1st. However, to be eligible for this benefit, the vehicle must only be collected from January 1st. For buyers, this means it’s quite profitable to wait until the new year to buy a new Tesla. However, as the US company doesn’t allow its buyers to put off their orders to receive them next month, cancellations have been on the rise lately. To counteract this problem, Tesla is said to have initially started offering a price reduction of US$3,750 to its customers in the United States.

German environmental bonus will decrease from 2023

In Germany, too, buyers of electric cars receive an “environmental bonus” that is intended to help promote the spread of comparatively expensive electric models. As the ADAC explains, buyers of so-called Stromers will receive a subsidy of up to 9,000 euros until the end of 2022 with an environmental bonus and an innovation bonus. However, some changes are planned from 2023 onwards. From January 1st, only those electric vehicles that have a proven positive climate protection effect will receive a subsidy. In addition, the amount of the subsidy should be reduced. For the German environmental bonus, however, it is not the purchase date but the registration date that is decisive, which means a higher price for some buyers from this year who will not receive their vehicle until next year. However, Tesla said buyers from this year don’t need to worry about the subsidy, according to TeslaMag, as the company has pledged to make up the difference on all 2022 orders if they can’t be delivered until the new year.

Top up 10,000 free miles/km

Also, TeslaMag recently received internal information from Tesla, revealing another incentive to buy this year. Accordingly, customers in Europe who will receive their Tesla later this year will be credited with supercharger electricity for 10,000 kilometers. According to the internal source, TeslaMag wants to express to customers their own appreciation for their flexibility over the holidays. All in all, this would be a bonus worth around 1,200 euros. According to TeslaMag, the flexibility could mean that German customers (and maybe in the future also customers from all over Europe) should pick up their Model Y directly at the factory in Grünheide near Berlin, for which there is also a shop credit of 400 euros.

But not only customers from Europe can look forward to the free Supercharger premium. In the USA, too, customers who accept a Tesla later this year will receive a supercharger credit of 10,000 miles. As electrek reports, this is an indication that Tesla may currently be having problems with demand. With the forthcoming tax breaks next year, however, demand should return to its former strength.
