First the accident on the track, then the barrage of punches and kicks to the rival in the pit lane. The fights, unfortunately, are not an unprecedented event in the world of motors, but what happened in the Nascar stage scheduled in Virginia, on September 24, was nothing short of surreal. No one in the audience would have imagined that Andrew Grady would vent his frustration over the incident by attacking rival and colleague Davey Callihan while he was still in the car. A sad episode that went around the world.

the dynamics

It all started on the track during qualifying at Martinsville Speedway for the ValleyStar Credit Union 300, one of the top events in the Late Model Stock category. 93 formations registered with 40 places available for the competition. During one of the four selective heats, Grady was involved in an accident with Brandon Pierce and allegedly blamed Callihan for what happened. According to what Grady himself reported, then, to aggravate the situation there would have been a rude gesture from Davey. A series of episodes that led to escalation and brawl.

aggression

The images, in fact, portray Grady as he breaks through the window of his rival’s car while the latter is still in the cockpit. In the grip of the most uncontrollable fury, Andrew trims a series of punches to the other driver, before being dragged away with difficulty by the men of his team. Callihan justified his maneuver on the track by explaining that he did her job on Road and Track: “I did what I had to. She doesn’t give herself an inch when there are 95 cars on the track.” Difficult, however, that these words are enough to reconcile with the opponent.
