Hamburger SV underlines its promotion ambitions. In a gripping top game in the 2nd Bundesliga, the Hanseatic League narrowly prevailed.

Hamburger SV shot itself out of the crisis in the 2nd Bundesliga on Sunday (October 30th, 2022). Coach Tim Walter’s team won 3-2 (2-1) at SC Paderborn after two previous defeats thanks to a goal by Laszlo Benes (69th).

The Hanseatic League thus moved up to second place with 28 points behind leaders Darmstadt 98 (29 points). In contrast, East Westphalia (26 points) fell back to third place.

In front of 15,000 spectators, coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team initially took the lead thanks to Robert Leipertz (3’/51′) scoring twice. The strong Robert Glatzel (23rd) and Jean-Luc Dompe (45th + 1) had already turned before the Paderborn equalizer.

Glatzel return a help

HSV was caught off guard in the early minutes. Marvin Pieringer dribbled unchecked into the guests’ penalty area – Leipertz successfully took the ball from his teammate’s foot with a shot on goal.

After a wild ten minutes, the Hamburgers caught themselves. Paderborn continued to switch quickly and created chances. The return of the recently injured Glatzel paid off for HSV: He took advantage of Hamburg’s first chance to equalize.

More chances for HSV

The goal gave the visitors a boost. After several missed chances, they turned the game around with Dompe’s goal. After the rather unexpected equalizer by Leipertz, the game was completely open again, but HSV impressed with their efficiency. And he could have won even more after Benes scored through Glatzel (77th).

Paderborn directly with the next summit meeting

The next endurance test awaits the SCP with the away trip to Heidenheim on the 15th matchday of the second Bundesliga (Saturday, November 5th, 2022 at 1 p.m.). A day later, HSV is at home against Regensburg Favorit (1.30 p.m.).
