For the cinema trailer, the Quadriga was replaced by a bicorne – what does that mean?
A new trailer for “Napoleon” is causing excitement. In the animated clip it looks as if the figure, the historic four-in-hand coach, is being removed from the Brandenburg Gate.
Specifically, the video shows a crane transporting the Quadriga onto a truck and finally replacing the four-in-hand vehicle with a huge bicorne. But what seems real in the trailer is ultimately just a reminder of a historical event and not a current or real event.
The new clip is a nod to Napoleon’s Quadriga robbery after the victory against Prussia in 1806. It wasn’t until 1814 that the Quadriga returned to the site. Modern film technology uses the scene to promote director Ridley Scott’s new historical blockbuster.

The film, which opens in Germany on November 23rd, takes a closer look at Napoleon’s rise to power, his problematic marriage to Joséphine de Beauharnais and his six famous battles. The French general and emperor is played in the film by Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix.
