She has long been a star herself: British teenager Nandi Bushell, who was born in South Africa, first caused an international sensation two years ago after her YouTube videos went viral. In it she drummed up famous rock and pop songs by Muse, Metallica, Queens Of The Stone Age and Coldplay, for example, and sometimes so impressively well that even the rock stars themselves became aware of the then ten-year-old: Dave Grohl, for example, saw her version of Nirvana’s “In Bloom” and was enthusiastic. She then reenacted the Foo Fighters hit “Everlong” and challenged Grohl to a duel. He assumed a kind of friendship developed, which recently culminated in Bushell being allowed to attend the tribute concert for the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.
Now the twelve-year-old has upped the ante: In her most recent video – and her first new cover in over six months – she drums to Eminem’s “Rap God”. Along with “Godzilla”, the track is one of those in which Eminem raps even faster than most of his other songs, he manages around six words per second. Bushell’s drumming is correspondingly fast-paced. Watch her video here:
Guess who’s back? My first new cover in almost 6 months! #rapgod by @eminem! Inspired by the awesome drummer @halcvlte – I am still working on my original songs. Coming soon! I can’t wait for you to hear them. Working on my speed and consistency. #eminem #vad506 @RolandGlobal pic.twitter.com/yh4PX84r9r
