Naked or hairy, all cats are winners at the Hilversum cat show

Today the Dudok Arena was the scene of a beauty show for cats and cats. This weekend, dozens of real pedigree cats from home and abroad were inspected by expert judges in the Hilversum sports hall. “Everyone actually wins, because all owners think his or her cat is the most beautiful,” says a volunteer from the organization.

The room is decorated in a Valentine’s theme and many cat baskets are decorated with streamers and heart balloons. Mother Ylia van den Oever (55) and daughter Megan Eeftenk (27) travel a lot with their bred cats. The animals are proudly brushed and pampered. They both have six cats at home and enjoy continuing to breed. They then take those cats with them to win titles.

Mother Ylia says that she has also started an Instagram account for her animals. She already has more than 25,000 followers, she shows.

The vast majority of owners in the Dudok Arena are breeders, which means they have a pedigree cat to produce more. Such a title after your cat’s name can mean that it becomes more popular for other breeders to breed with.

On the other side of the sports hall is Agnieszka Bodakowska. She brought her four purebred cats and one of her daughters with her. The cats are her great love. “I don’t have a job, so I have a lot of time at home with the cats and my three daughters,” she says. “My daughters come first, then my cats and third is my husband,” she laughs. “But he knows I’m happy with my cats and the show.”

Her favorite cat? The Sphynx. Agnieszka takes a hairless cat out of its cage. “He’s only ten months old.” According to her, the cat is really a sweetheart. “He doesn’t argue with other cats. He always stays with you and he always wants to cuddle.”

Unfortunately, Agnieszka’s cat did not win. Maybe her favorite cat will take the titles next time.
