Nail boards found in the woods between Heeze and Eindhoven

Three nail boards were found in the woods between Heeze and Eindhoven on Monday evening. “This is a conscious action”, says forester Nick Jeurissen of Brabants Landschap. The ranger has filed a report. He suspects the boards were intended to thwart illegal motocross riders. “We’ve been getting a lot of complaints about that lately.”

According to the forester, someone wanted to play in front of their own judge. Who that was is not yet known. “You are not good in your head if you do this”, says Jeurissen. Photos of the ranger show wide wooden planks with long, protruding nails in them. One of the planks was even dug in. The conservationists have since removed them.

Flat tyres
Two planks were found by a farmer in the Gijzenrooise Zegge near Eindhoven. He drove over it with his tractor, but had no damage. “After that, a mountain biker came forward with flat tires,” Jeurissen knows.

The cyclist found the plank on a bridleway in the De Groote Heide nature reserve near Heeze, also known as Leenderheide. “You’d better walk in there with your horse”, Jeurissen horrifies. According to the forester, these are places where crossers often come.

“Colleagues are now scanning all routes,” says the still indignant forester. Although no new planks have been found yet, Jeurissen wants to warn everyone who goes into the nature reserves. Equestrian associations have also been informed.

Visitors to the forest were shocked by the news on Tuesday afternoon. Mountain biker Jan Welten: “Motocross riders cause a lot of nuisance here. Then people will play for their own judge.” Toon van den Berg: “They should just lock them up and never release them. This is simply not possible.”
