On Friday afternoon, Julian Nagelsmann from the DFB will be introduced as the new national coach and will then look after the German national football team in the coming months until the home European Championships. The commitment was made possible not only by a salary waiver by the 36-year-old, who would actually have been entitled to millions of euros from FC Bayern, but also by the Munich team themselves with a one-off payment.
Figures about a possible deal between Julian Nagelsmann and the German Football Association (DFB) have been floating around for days, should he actually sign as national coach as expected. According to various media reports, the 36-year-old will earn 400,000 euros per month until the European Championships next June and July. In total, his salary amounts to around four million euros.
This means that Nagelsmann earns significantly less than he would have been entitled to at FC Bayern until his contract ends in mid-2026. Here he would have received around seven million euros per year. In order to make up for the difference at least a little, the German football record champions are said to have accommodated the DFB and Nagelsmann, according to “Bild”.
Accordingly, the coach, who was relieved of his duties at FCB in March, will receive a one-off payment to compensate for the salary gap. We are talking about one to one and a half million euros. This would mean that all contractual obligations would be canceled and Nagelsmann could devote himself freely to the DFB with the severance payment behind him.
There is almost no doubt that he does this. On Friday afternoon (September 22nd, 2023) at 12 p.m., the DFB invited people to a press conference at the DFB campus in Frankfurt/Main, at which Nagelsmann will be introduced as head of the European Championship mission, as several media reports.
However, according to “kicker”, Nagelsmann will not be a long-term solution (for now). After the European Championships – as of now – it’s over. The trade magazine recently said that this should correspond to the ideas of both sides.
