Nine years ago it was “Thiago or nothing” at FC Bayern. The then coach Pep Guardiola coined this sentence because he absolutely wanted to sign Thiago Alcantara from FC Barcelona. The top Spanish coach finally got his emphatically expressed wish fulfilled.
In the summer of 2022, Guardiola migrated to Manchester City long ago and Julian Nagelsmann has now taken over the reins from the German record champions. But Nagelsmann now also has a clear demand and it is apparently “Laimer or nothing”.
Because according to information from “Bild”, the 34-year-old has made it clear to those responsible at FC Bayern that he wants to sign Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig and absolutely needs him for the new season.
Nagelsmann and Laimer know each other very well from their time together with the Red Bulls between 2019 and 2021. Recently, there had already been intense speculation about Munich’s interest in the Austrian, who has played for Leipzig since 2017. There is even said to have been a first concrete offer for the 25-year-old.
According to information from “fussballtransfers.com”, an offer of 22 million euros plus possible additional payments through bonuses was below the demands of the RB bosses. According to the portal and according to “Bild”, these should be ready to talk from a sum of 30 million euros.
Konrad Laimer probably wants to go to Bayern
The problem: Bayern officials don’t want to pay (much) more than 20 million euros for the midfielder, whose contract expires next year. Negotiations and haggling are likely to continue in the background. By the end of June, Laimer could have been released from the contract with an exit clause of 35 million euros – without poker. But this sum was far above the expectations of the Nagelsmann club.
The good thing from Bayern’s point of view: According to the “Bild” report, Laimer would very much like to move to Munich. He can therefore imagine a transfer so well because Nagelsmann absolutely wants it. Now only the Bayern bosses have to open their wallets a little more so that Leipzig release the strong midfielder.
