Nadal wants to start at Wimbledon despite foot problems

Despite his big foot problems, Spain’s tennis star Rafael Nadal wants to compete in the grass classic in Wimbledon.

“My intention is to play in Wimbledon. The treatments and the training week give me hope that there is a chance. And I wouldn’t travel there if I didn’t intend to play,” said the record Grand Slam -Winner at a press conference on his home island of Mallorca.

The third Grand Slam tournament of the year begins in London on June 27. Nadal had previously won the Australia and French Open. On Monday, the 36-year-old wants to fly to London, play a show game in Hurlingham and train for a week to see “if it’s possible”.

Just two days after his 14th victory at the French Open, Nadal had undergone pulsed radiofrequency therapy in Barcelona for chronic pain in his left foot. The affected foot nerves would be numbed with this treatment and could no longer transmit the pain stimulus to the brain, it said. Nadal has been suffering from Müller-Weiss Syndrome, a rare and degenerative disease, for several years.

According to his own statements, Nadal had had injections against the complaints before each of his seven games in Paris. He also revealed he was on anti-inflammatories throughout the tournament. But that can’t be a permanent solution, he stressed. At the Wimbledon tournament (June 27 to July 10), Nadal definitely does not want to repeat the procedure in Paris.
