In-house, NAC already managed to win 1-0 against MVV in the play-offs for promotion to the Eredivisie. This Saturday evening, the people of Breda did it all over again. In Maastricht they barely got into trouble: 1-4. NAC is the only Brabant club that still has a chance of promotion.
A blunder by MVV goalkeeper Romain Matthys helped NAC Breda take the lead in the 20th minute. He came out much too early, allowing the Icelandic attacker of NAC Elías Már Ómarsson to shoot the ball over the goalkeeper in peace. Within ten minutes that lead was extended. Midfielder Sabir Agougil shot the 2-0 against the net on the instructions of the first goal scorer. Before the break, the 3-0 also fell for NAC, this goal came from the foot of Ezechiel Banzuzi.
After that goal, the game was stopped for about five minutes, because a ‘joy beer’ had ended up on the field from the section with NAC supporters.
No child at Maastricht
After the break, MVV did something in return. In the 68th minute, Dailon Livramento scored the 1-3 for MVV on a pass from Ruben van Bommel (son of former PSV player Mark van Bommel). That was immediately the last convulsion of the club from Limburg. After the goal, NAC kept the reins tight and MVV did not score anymore.
In the 83rd minute, NAC keeper Roy Kortsmit received a red card after knocking down Van Bommel just outside the penalty area. In the semi-finals, NAC may therefore miss defender Anselmo MacNulty (who got yellow earlier in the game and was already on edge) and keeper Kortsmit. Attacker Jort van der Sande was forced to put on the goalkeeper’s uniform and finish the match under the crossbar.
Reached semi-finals
The last seven minutes of the game, NAC managed to keep things locked with ten men. Charles-Jesaja Hermann also scored a goal, putting the final result of 1-4 on the board.
Because of this achievement, NAC is the only remaining Brabant club in the play-offs for promotion/relegation. Previously, FC Eindhoven and Willem II were eliminated. NAC will play the first match of the semi-final against FC Emmen on Wednesday. Hyballah will watch the number sixteen of the Eredivisie on Sunday in the away match against FC Utrecht.
