Peter Hyballa is no longer the trainer of NAC Breda. The first division player fired the German on Wednesday morning, NAC reports on the website. Assistant Ton Lokhoff will take over his duties for the time being. This will continue until a definitive successor is found.
Peter Maas, technical director of NAC, explains that the club saw too little progress. “Peter performed well last season; after his appointment in the winter, we went from position 12 to position 6. In the summer we further strengthened the selection and staff in order to continue to grow. Unfortunately, the continued development was not successful, precisely because the collaboration from the trainer to his working environment became insufficient,” says Maas. “We as management do not believe that the situation can still be repaired.”
Hyballa received the news on Wednesday morning prior to training in Zundert.
Hyballa has been at the helm since January
The German trainer returned as a trainer in Breda in January. He then succeeded the departed Robert Molenaar. Hyballa already coached NAC for five months in 2020. He was popular with players and audiences at the time. However, he had to leave after a disagreement with then technical manager Tom van den Abbeele.
Tenth place
After five matches, NAC is tenth in the Kitchen Champion Division with 7 points. On Saturday the team lost 3-1 to Roda JC at home. But four days earlier, the club won the derby against Willem II 4-1. That happened in Tilburg without an audience after the match had been stopped a few days earlier with a score of 3-0 in favor of the people of Breda.
An away match against VVV-Venlo is now scheduled for Friday.
Hyballa is already the third trainer at a Dutch club to leave the field in the early football season. Michael Silberbauer of FC Utrecht was the first, followed by Reinier Robbemond who was fired by Willem II last week. That happened after the Tilburg team lost the derby to NAC.
