We can find the answer to this question with our colleagues from indebuurt Delft. Lieke Verhoeven is a forest ranger in the Abtwoud forest, where she often receives questions from the walking or cycling public. One of those questions is: what are those posts with a white top doing in the grass? Lieke told on Twitter that these strange posts have a very important function.
High voltage
The posts with a white top indicate the terminations of high voltage cables. “The posts in the area indicate that there is a high-voltage connection,” explains Lieke. “This is especially important when the tall grass needs to be mowed. The posts ensure that the lawnmower knows exactly where it should not mow.” Another lesson learned, and it just goes to show that an ordinary-looking post can have a completely different meaning.
