What makes Zoetermeer really Zoetermeer? If you ask Marian Bekkers that question, you will get the following answer: the physical stores. To promote this, she started the ‘Week of the Stone Shop’.
‘Stone shops are important’
The Week of the Stone Shop is from 8 to 14 May in Zoetermeer. During this week, the participating entrepreneurs will do their best to show why they believe physical stores are important for Zoetermeer.
Discount at Zoetermeer businesses
How they do that? At some stores you get a discount on products, at others you get a present to take home and other Zoetermeer entrepreneurs choose to raffle prizes. In addition, things are usually decorated with streamers, balloons and posters. What exactly you can do and what is organized differs per case. Check out the social media pages of these shops for extra information or go to the center without any hesitation!

‘Had a difficult period’
According to initiator Marian Bekkers, the Week of the Stenen Shop is much needed. She says: “Many physical stores have had a hard time in recent years. Lockdowns, online shopping and rising rents and costs have left their mark.” Marian thinks consumers were more focused on local shopping during lockdowns, but she says this is declining. “That while physical stores are extremely important for the quality of life in towns and villages,” she says.
Entrepreneurs in Zoetermeer have signed up for the Week of the Stone Shop. Spread across the Netherlands and Belgium, 4,000 businesses participate.
