You will find this special manhole cover at 502 Engelandlaan, opposite the entrance to the town hall, next to the statue of an embracing man and woman. But this is not the original location: the manhole cover has been moved.
Introduction to Zoetermeer
On 21 June 2013, the royal couple visited Zoetermeer. After the accession to the throne on April 30, 2013, the King and Queen were introduced to various Dutch cities. As a reminder of their visit, those cities received a royal manhole cover with an image of Willem-Alexander and Màxima, a crown and the year.

Manhole cover has been moved
On Wednesday, July 10, 2013, the manhole cover was placed on the Markt as a reminder of the visit of the royal couple. This is where the entrance to the former town hall was located, and the place where Willem-Alexander and Máxima were welcomed by mayor Aptroot. When the visitor’s entrance was moved to the Engelandlaan, the manhole cover was also moved to this location. Our colleagues from Omroep West made it a short one video about.
Aquafix Milieu from Mijdrecht devised the manhole covers especially for the coronation that took place on April 30, 2013, and calls them ‘coronation covers’. All (almost 400) municipalities in the Netherlands have received this special manhole cover as a gift for village or city squares, as a reminder of the special event.
