My Stargardt – Lotte fights for her sight

When 21-year-old Lotte Luykx is tested for Stargardt’s disease, she is positive about the outcome. She doesn’t have it. She doesn’t have any complaints like her sister does, does she? But things are different. Now she is committed to raising money for research. So that she does not slowly lose her sight and she does not have to give up her dream for the future.

The makers of ‘My Stargardt’ are Julia Verhoef, Dennis Giling and Sascha Duijst. The central point in their documentary is a meeting that Lotte has with friends, who help her set up a campaign that should lead to more attention and research money for her disease. That is what Lotte is doing at this point in her life. Cinematically, it forms the link between the retrospective scenes with her father and the conversation with a fellow sufferer, who encourages her by saying that even if the disease progresses, there is still plenty to enjoy.

Challenging future North Holland media makers and offering a platform, that is what NH Media does, in collaboration with the Hogeschool van Amsterdam. Students of their minor Video & Television were sent out with the assignment to make a documentary for us.
