Queen of Denmark Margaret announced today that she will remove the Royal Titles from her four grandchildren. The change concerns Margareta’s younger son, the prince Joachim’s descendants.

Joachim says that he found out about his mother’s decision earlier.

– I have to tell my children that their identity will be taken away. I’m really, really sad to see them so sad and not understanding about this, says Joachim for the Danish BT.

– My children are sad. My children don’t know what to believe. Why should their identity be tampered with? Why must my children be punished, Joachim continues.

From the beginning of 2023, Joachim’s children will be known only by the names of Count or Countess of Monpezat. The titles of prince and princess are no longer used for them.

In the future, they will also not be called Royal Highnesses, but Excellencies. The change will eventually also apply to Joachim’s future descendants.

Joachim has four children: Prince Nicholas23, a prince Felix20, a prince Henrik13 and a princess Athena, 10.

Margareta’s decision does not concern Crown Prince Frederik’s four children.

Queen Margareta’s decision speaks volumes in Denmark. In the press, the matter is referred to as a court crisis.
