The cabinet has once again considered the ‘lines of thought’ of Johan Remkes. Someone said those lines shouldn’t necessarily be drawn with a ruler. Another pulled out an eraser. And lo and behold: the ‘mandatory buy-out’ of peak loaders will now take place ‘on a voluntary basis’, ‘within a year’ became ‘quick’. ‘How nice is it if this works?’, said nitrogen minister Christianne van der Wal in this newspaper on Saturday.
Very nice of course, apart from the half civil war of the past few months, which has been completely unnecessary, and oh yes: that there is really no one who believes that it will work.
In the meantime, two gigantic inverted flags are still flying along the A12, just past Veenendaal. One says ‘No great reset’. On the other: ‘Genocide on the farmer now, next time you are’. It’s just a line of thought, but can those things go away now that politics has caved in?
