‘My carport is full of the wrong stuff!’

Glennis Grace is annoyed that aid organizations have not welcomed her with open arms in Ter Apel, but the criticism of her seems valid. “My carport is full of the wrong stuff!”

Glennis Grace’s attempt to help the asylum seekers in Ter Apel has failed quite a bit. She and her friends drove there on Sunday with seven cars full of stuff, but caused annoyance among the aid organizations present. Not only because they were very chaotic at work, but also because they had brought all kinds of things that are not necessary.

Wrong stuff

A bosom friend of Glennis said afterwards on Instagram that they had brought a lot of stuff for women and children, such as diapers and toys, but that there turned out to be a lot of young men in Ter Apel. According to this bosom friend, they need socks and underwear again.

All that wrong stuff, and the way that stuff was packed (disorganized), has caused annoyance at organizations such as the Red Cross and MiGreat. They already collect things themselves and do so in an organized manner. And not when Glennis suddenly arrives with a mountain of garbage bags. However, the singer herself is pissed about the criticism.

Glennis is in the way

Yljo van Donselaar is a resident of Ter Apel and very involved in the fate of the refugees. He explained yesterday in the talk show Jinek why Glennis has been criticized. “She was parked in a spot just behind the Red Cross, which has made it say, ‘I don’t think that’s the most convenient place.’”

The Red Cross could not do its job properly in this way, says Yljo. “The ambulances also had to park there. Finally she went a little further to hand out. I got there just a little later and I actually only came across a lot of stuff. Glennis Grace was unfortunately no longer present at that time.”

amateur benefactor

Glennis has brought a lot of stuff that will not be used at all, according to Yljo. “I spoke to another colleague who tried to explain to her, ‘Well, if you’re going to be handing out things as a volunteer, we should really try to do it in a professional way.’”

Amateur benefactors like Glennis get in the way more than they help. “It’s great that everyone wants to help, only from all over the country people are now coming with vans and stuff, but also stuff that is not needed.”

‘My carport is full!’

Yljo then shows a photo (see above) of where all that stuff from people like Glennis ends up: under his carport. “Yeah, that got a bit out of hand indeed. It’s all good intentions lying under my carport. There is a lot of clothes that they don’t use. It actually needs to be sorted as well.”

“I then advise: try to find a charitable organization that is there to explain how it goes, but not like this. It just becomes chaos and it also brings tension.”
