The 2022 Motocross World Championship reaches its fourth round of the season: on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 April it will take place at the Agueda cross-track, returning to the Portuguese track after a two-year stop due to a deeply revised calendar due to a pandemic. Tim Gajser (Honda) and Jago Geerts (Yamaha) arrive in the Iberian Peninsula as holders of the red tables of the respective MXGP and MX2 classes, while the girls of the WMX Women’s Motocross World Championship and the boys of the European EMX250.

MXGP: Herlings and Febvre on the track?

It hasn’t happened since the British Grand Prix to see Romain Febvre (Kawasaki) in the entry list of an MXGP race, after the bad crash at the Paris Supercross. On that occasion the Frenchman did not take to the track and the long stop would seem to be about to end. What is certain is that it would still be early to see the 2021 vice-world champion battle on equal terms in the qualifying heats on Saturday and in the two heats on Sunday, with a physical shape to regain and practically zero training in the saddle. Same goes for Jeffrey Herlings (Ktm), injured during the photo shooting at the beginning of the season. Although the Dutchman continues to send social messages that “The Bullet” is returning, the chances of actually seeing him in action in Agueda are slim. Space therefore for Tim Gajser, who even if he were to find himself on track with last year’s two rivals in what was one of the most fascinating seasons of recent years, with a three-way sprint for the title, would not struggle to keep them behind, just for a physical matter. Spotlight also on Maxime Renaux (Yamaha), who after having unlocked himself with the victory of Race 1 in Argentina wants to keep the pace of Gajser in the championship. Jorge Prado (Gas Gas) and Jeremy Seewer (Yamaha) called to confirm the good things seen so far, Jeremy Van Horebeek’s fifth position in the championship with the Beta is surprising.

MX2: Facchetti is fine

The Argentine Grand Prix had left everyone with bated breath due to the bad accident that involved Gianluca Facchetti (Ktm) in the opening stages of the second heat. Fortunately, the number 22 reported only a small fracture to the wrist and ribs, reassuring the world of the piece through an Instagram post in the hours following the event. Facchetti not only regularly features in the entry list published by the MXGP series, but he also returned to training, doing bicycle activities near Lake Iseo earlier this week, before blowing out 23 candles. As for the race in Portugal, in all likelihood it will still be a two-way affair between current red plate holder Jago Geerts (Yamaha) and Tom Vialle (Ktm). But watch out for Simon Langenfelder (Gas Gas), galvanized by having come of age between the Argentine and Portuguese rounds, and his teammate Mattia Guadagnini, who in Patagonia raised his head and missed the podium of the day alone. for a matter of regulation that with the same sum of points in the two heats, whoever has the best result in Race 2 is ahead, and therefore in this case Mikkel Haarup (Kawasaki). Present in the entry list Kay De Wolf (Husqvarna), still absent teammate Roan Van De Moosdjik, both injured in Argentina.
