After a strong final phase of the season, MVV has rewarded itself with a 0-1 victory against TOP Oss. Mitchel Keulen scored the only goal in the fifth minute.
Thanks to this victory, the people of Maastricht close the season in sixteenth place.
Positive
Despite a disappointing place in the ranking, Maastricht is still looking forward to next season positively. Since interim coach Maurice Verberne has held sway, football has improved with only one defeat in the last six games. Verberne also expresses the ambition to become head coach next season. It will become clear in the coming summer whether that will also happen. Another positive point is that the selection can remain largely intact thanks to current contracts. The club has not known that certainty in recent years and so they can look for new acquisitions for the next season.
Gain
For a sold out section with MVV supporters, the people of Maastricht naturally wanted to end the season with a victory. That started energetically when Mitchel Keulen hit a direct goal in the fifth minute. He immediately took Sven Blummel’s corner on the shoe, resulting in the desired opening goal.
easy half
In the first half hour, MVV had hardly anything to fear from TOP Oss and failed to double the lead itself. The most danger from Maastricht’s perspective came mainly from their four corners in the first half. In addition, Orhan Džepar was very close to a goal in the 23rd minute. He headed well to the ground, but just wide of Norbert Alblas’ goal. Only in the last ten minutes did TOP Oss get closer to goalkeeper Romain Matthys, but that did not yield anything for the time being.
Mitchy Nteloc
After an hour of play, MVV’s top scorer was taken aside. The 21-year-old mercenary from Standard Liège was not yet fit enough to play full matches this season. But in that limited playing time, he managed to hit the target ten times. Leroy Labille was replaced by Leroy Labille, which was also a tactical substitution for Verberne. Because in this phase of the match TOP Oss also started to report explicitly on the half of MVV.
Hold on
Just like last week against Young Ajax, the Maastricht players were forced to defend more and more after an hour of play. The attacks of the team from Oss became more and more dangerous through the striker duo Kay Tejan and Jearl Margaritha. But as so often this season, Matthys showed his class as a goalkeeper by continuously intervening correctly where necessary. Especially in the 86th minute he was the hero on the side of MVV when he barely managed to turn the ball face to face with Tejan.
Double win
On the final day, thanks to the 0-1 victory, MVV was able to win two games in a row for the first time this season. So the season ended with an MVV in which color has appeared on the cheeks again. Supported by a loyal following and with a selection that ended the season with confidence, it is hoped that that line can be continued next season.
