Hertha President Kay Bernstein (43) is in the Martin Luther Hospital, so he missed the second division club’s hot general meeting in the exhibition hall on Sunday. BZ answers the most important questions.
An untimely accident! On Tuesday afternoon, after a friendly chest check with Marcus Becker (Director of Legal and Human Resources), Bernstein crashed to the ground in the office and broke three transverse vertebral processes.

How is Kay Bernstein? When can he leave the clinic?
According to BZ information, the president initially toyed with the idea of somehow appearing at the general meeting on Sunday. Nothing will come of it. He is only allowed to leave the clinic when he can walk independently, without any help – and the pain is bearable. On Wednesday, Bernstein told BZ: “It hurts a lot. I take strong painkillers.”
Will he still speak to members?
Yes! Hertha will record Bernstein’s speech (the Presidium’s report) in advance and play it to members on the video screen on Sunday. There will be no live connection – as initially planned. This should also avoid unnecessary pain.
Who will take on the Bernstein role?
Vice President Fabian Drescher (40) steps in as deputy. He will greet and say goodbye to Bernstein. And when it comes to the issue of debate, Drescher has to face the fire – critical questions are expected.
For example, why Hertha chose CrazyBuzzer as the main sponsor, even though Bernstein had categorically excluded betting providers when he was elected president in the summer of 2022.
