Galatasaray Istanbul will probably be able to play with Fernando Muslera in goal in the Champions League game at FC Bayern Munich.
The 37-year-old captain recently injured his elbow in the 2-1 win against Kasimpasa in the Turkish Süperlig and had to be substituted after an hour of play. The goalkeeper from Uruguay was now able to train with the team and is part of the Turkish football champions’ squad.
“Muslera trained and there were no problems,” reported coach Okan Buruk at the Allianz Arena. The decision about whether to use the experienced goalkeeper will only be made on the day of the match.
The game on Wednesday (9:00 p.m.) was “very important” for Galatasaray, said Buruk: “We want to get through the group phase.” Before the 4th matchday, the Turkish record champions are second in the table with four points behind Bayern, who have won three times so far. Second place would be enough to advance to the round of 16.
In contrast to the 1:3 defeat in the first leg at the Allianz Arena, Buruk expects a Bayern team that will be more dominant. He hopes that his team will be more effective in the final match than they were at the home game in Istanbul two weeks ago.
To do this, he relies on the loud support of many compatriots living in Germany. “We have a lot of Turkish fans behind us. With their help we want to make a good impression here,” said the 50-year-old.
