Never change a winning team? The GRIPS Theater shows courage
Actually, the GRIPS Theater could have made itself comfortable on the “Line 1” seat, which has been successfully chugging for almost 37 years.
But the house takes the risk of a new production. Music, lyrics, characters remain the same – the story continues to take place in 1986.
At Thursday’s sold-out premiere, it features expanded costumes and a new stage. This is now more technically adept and can, among other things, project a few images onto its surface using a beamer.
The charm of the previous graffiti-covered wall is somewhat lost. But the ensemble makes up for this shortcoming: the girl’s name is just Natalie and she acts a little more confidently. The only one from the original cast, Dietrich Lehmann, shines in his seven roles.
So it’s not surprising that the applause continues for a long time after the end. Also nice: BZ is still read in the play.
