The Castle of Cigognola
The medieval Castle of Cigognola, owned by the Moratti family, dominates the 28 hectares of land planted with vines on the estate in the hills of Oltrepò Pavese. Purchased by Don Carlo Arnaboldi-Gazzaniga in the nineteenth century, the structure was remodeled, adapted to the neo-Gothic style then in vogue. Since then the Castle remained in the hands of the Arnaboldi heirs and in 1981 it became the exclusive property of Letizia Brichetto Arnaboldi and Gian Marco Moratti. In 1982, however, a fire destroyed the building, and the family entrusted the reconstruction to the famous interior architect and set designer Renzo Mongiardino. Here the Morattis have decided to cultivate their passion for wine, dedicating themselves to the productions of the territory: Barbera, Pinot Nero and, later, Nebbiolo.
