The Museum of the 20th Century in Hoorn is offering a reward of 1,000 euros for the golden tip that leads to the graffiti sprayers who are happy to provide the city center with the letters ‘K-R’.
Vandal-ravaged Hoorn has already allocated a million euros to have the damage to monuments, homes and statues removed. Since 2019, the letters ‘KR’ have regularly popped up in the city center. Vandalism is a thorn in the side of the municipality.
Penalties imposed seem to have little effect, and prosecuting and adjudicating graffiti artists is impossible due to a lack of evidence. They must be caught in the act. According to Hans Stuijfbergen, director of the Museum of the 20th Century, it is all taking too long. He hopes to get justice with a reward of 1,000 euros.
On Saturday, May 27, several politicians will hold a large graffiti cleaning campaign in the Juliana Park. With this action, politicians in Hoorn want to send a signal to its residents that they ‘strongly disapprove’ of vandalism.
Although Stuijfbergen welcomes the action, he believes the municipality should approach vandalism differently. “I think it’s a wonderful idea that the alderman and councilors are going to remove the graffiti. It shouldn’t be necessary. We have to prevent vandalism, which is clearly illegal, and not fight it with cleaning products.”
